It’s a fact that gardens are getting smaller; existing ones aren’t shrinking, but any new developments are likely to be markedly smaller than their predecessors. In many cities you’re lucky to have much more than a balcony or postage stamp backyard, which on the face of it offer little or no encouragement to a gardener. At the economy end of the market Amazon sell the Grow It Extra Wide Grow Arc. Instead of glazing this has a heavy duty reinforced polyethylene cover and is only 1ft 6ins deep. The space saving design based around a powder coated steel frame is extremely simple to set up with no tools required. There’s a zipped roll up door and inside you have four wide shelves that can be removed to suit whatever you’re growing.

Homebase have a very attractive Victorian Tall Wall Greenhouse that looks marvellous either with natural timber or when the tongue and groove softwood is painted. The shelves are adjustable to accommodate tall plants and access is easy through double doors into a very light environment glazed with styrene.
